Fake Email Scams are on the rise. I receive two to three a week. You need to look out for emails that come from Banks, eBay, PayPal and any other financial intuitions you have dealings with. What you want to look out for is any links in the email. The link may say http://www.tomshayconsulting.com but when you hover your mouse over the link, you can tell it points to another website like http://www.website-organizer.com. To be able to tell where the link is pointing to, you need to have your Status Bar turned on. Click on "View" then "Toolbars" and make sure the "Status Bar" has a check mark before it.
Your status bar shows up at the bottom of your Browser Window right above your Task Bar.
When you hover your mouse over the link, the address will show up in your Status Bar on the Left hand side. Below is a picture of what you will see.
Hover your mouse over the two links above and see how one points to what you see typed out and the other points to another website that I own. Click Here to see an email that looks like it came from Amazon. The main thing to remember is to never click on a link inside an email you are not sure where it came from. If the email looks like it came from some company you do business with, then go to their website by using your Favorites or use Google to search for their website address. |
