How to Defrag your Computer

Defrag your PC

Now I know sometimes you might want to put a Frag Grenade inside your computer and blow it up.  ;-)  There are better ways to treat your computer.  Knowing how to
defrag your hard drive is one way to treat it.

Why do I need to defrag my computer?

When files are saved on your hard drive, sometimes they are not saved all in one spot on your hard drive.  They get broken up and are saved in two or three different spots on the hard drive.  When you defrag your computer, you take each file and programs and put them in order on your hard drive.  When you are done defragging your computer, it will run faster and smoother.  The files are in order and it makes it easier for the computer to access them.

How to defrag my computer?

Click on the "Start" button, then click on "Programs", then "Accessories", then "System Tools", then "Disk Defragmenter.

Click on the drive you want to defrag.  As you can see, I have clicked on the C:\ drive.  Then click on the "Defragment" button.  You want to do this when you are done using the computer and you can turn it on and let it run.  It can take a while, sometimes 30 minutes or more.

The red color shows defragmented files.  The more red you see, the more your computer is defragmented.

TIP:  As you can see above, my C:\ drive only has %18 percent Free Space.  If the free space runs below %15 percent the Disk Defragmenter will not run.  You will have to delete some files and/or programs to make room on your drive to work.
