Everyone should have a Firewall!

If you are connected to the internet, you NEED to have a FIREWALL installed and running.  A firewall is a software program or a piece of hardware that protects your computer from Hackers, Spyware and Viruses.  Now the issue is do you need to buy a firewall or use a free one.

If you have Windows XP or Vista, you are covered, as they have a built-in firewall.  If you have another operating system you will need to download a free version or paid version from somewhere.

I recommend ZoneAlarm, as their free firewall gives you great protection.   Click on the link below to learn more and download your free firewall.  I believe that its a better one than the one built into Windows.

Download Free Firewall Software

You ask, what's the difference between Free Firewall Software and on you have to Pay for?  The main difference is that with the paid version you get support.  You can call their support line and get help setting it up and help if you have problems.  With the free version, no support, but normally the free one's work just a good.  If you need support you can always use Google to do a search and look for answers.

How to check your Firewall Settings in Windows XP

Click on the "Start" button then click on "Settings", then "Network Connections".

Right click on the "Local Area Connection" that says its connected.  Click on "Properties".

Click on the "Advanced" tab then the "Settings" button.

Make sure your Firewall is on.  There are other tabs and settings, but you need to make sure what you are doing if you make any changes.

If you have a DSL or Cable Modem, most of them have a Firewall build into them.  The best way to handle them is to call your ISP, (Internet Service Provider).  They will be happy to help you make sure your Firewall is setup right and running.
