What Information Do You Need Before You Call Computer Support?

Before you call Tech Support you should have all your information about what the problem is and information about your computer.

Write everything down before you call.  This will help you make sure you don't miss anything when talking with the Computer Technician. 

Remember when you call, you most likely be on the phone a long time.  You can be on hold for 29 minutes or more just to start and then you might be talking with the Tech for a long time.  Having everything documented will save you time.

What you should do before you call or take your computer to get fixed.

  3. Check you Warranty.  Do you have an extended warranty or the most common is an 1 year warranty when you buy a new computer.  If your not sure, you can call and they will know if you are still under warranty.

What is the Problem?

  1. What is the Main Issue?

  2. Write down the exact wording of any error messages.

  3. What are the symptoms happening on your PC?

  4. What have you tried to fix the issue?

 

Computer Information Needed?

  1. System Manufacturer (Dell, Compaq, Gateway)

  2. System Model (Inspiron 530,  LX6200-01)

  3. Computer / PC Serial Number

  4. Service Numbers ( Dell has a Service Tag

  5. Processor Size ( 2.2 GHz, 3.4 GHz)

  6. RAM Amount (500 MB, 1 GB)

  7. Operating System Install Disks and Program Install Disks. 

  8. CD Key Install Codes for your Programs.

Who do you call for Help?

 

The Best thing to do is write your support numbers down before you have a problem.  Keep them in a safe place in your house, where you will remember them.
