What is Safe Mode and why do I need to start my computer in Safe Mode?

You need to use Windows Safe Mode to help you troubleshoot common computer issues.  If your computer will not boot up normally, you can try to boot up into safe mode.  Windows will only load the programs to let it start in a bare bones window. 

It will only load a standard video driver, no networking drivers, no internet connection and your screen resolution.  With your computer running in safe mode you will be troubleshoot any issues you are having. 

 

Sometimes you can't get rid of viruses, spyware and/or adware when you have booted up in normal mode.  Some viruses will be impossible to remove when you are booted up normally.  They load up as your computer is starting.  You need to start in Safe Mode to get rid of these pesky viruses.

Steps to get rid of a virus

• Update your anti-virus programs

• Reboot into Safe Mode

• Run anti-virus scans
